Okay, I’ll admit it. I am a chocolate fiend and with Valentine’s Day on the horizon, I am just days away from chocolate heaven. With chocolate hearts, truffles, cakes and a handful of other chocolate goodies overflowing the shelves at the bakery, it would be easy for me to cave and purchase any one of these delicious treats to serve as a Valentine’s Day dessert and be completely satisfied with my choice. This year however, I challenged myself to make my own dessert without chocolate. Enter Twinkies.
I discovered this quick, easy and oh so delicious recipe for two combining Twinkies, raspberry jam and fresh raspberries at CountryLiving.com. I was completely smitten with the adorable presentation of this dessert and was intrigued to find out if it tasted half as good as it looked. So, my daughter and I declared it a girl’s day and went straight to work. I’ll be the first to admit that I will not be auditioning for Top Chef anytime soon so I was pleasantly surprised by how easy this recipe was and how delicious it tasted. Cake, cream, jam and fresh raspberries…yum! As a finishing touch for our girl’s day, Teagan and I paired our desserts with two nice hot cups of tea (because let’s face it, there is nothing little girls (or their moms) love to do more than have a tea party).
